Overview

From the incoming supply to the load

Power distribution equipment sits between the transformer and the machines. It splits the supply, protects each outgoing circuit and gives the operator a way to isolate a section safely.

For an industrial plant, that usually means a main assembly with an incoming breaker, metering and a number of outgoing feeders; for a commercial building, sub-distribution and floor panels; for infrastructure, panels built into kiosks, pump houses or plant rooms.

We assemble these around your single-line diagram. The busbar, the incoming configuration, the number and rating of outgoing ways, the protection scheme and the enclosure follow the drawing. Where the drawing is incomplete, we list what is missing before pricing.

Typical project requirements

What we ask for before proposing equipment

The first four items usually decide the price. The rest decide whether the equipment fits the building.

Single-line diagram

The incoming arrangement, outgoing feeders, ratings and the protection scheme. A sketch is enough to start; a PDF is better.

Load list

Connected loads, demand, spare capacity and the number of spare ways you want to keep for future expansion.

Fault level

The prospective short-circuit current at the board. It decides the busbar and the breaking capacity of the devices.

Voltage and frequency

230/400 V at 50 Hz is our standard. Other arrangements are confirmed against the drawing and the available documentation.

Installation conditions

Indoor or outdoor, ambient temperature, altitude, dust, humidity and the space available for the enclosure.

Interface and approvals

Component brands your client has approved, cable entry direction, metering protocol and the inspection you want before dispatch.

What we normally propose

Three assemblies cover most distribution requirements. If the duty is unusual, say so early. The assembly type is easier to change before the drawing is approved.

Technical considerations

Points worth settling early

These come up on almost every project. Settling them at quotation stage avoids changes after the drawing is approved.
Busbar current and fault level
The main busbar rating follows the total demand plus spare capacity; the short-time withstand current follows the prospective fault level at the board. Both come from your calculation, not from the equipment catalogue.
From your calculation
Form of separation and access
How far the operator is separated from live parts, and whether feeders can be worked on while the busbar stays live. State the requirement in the specification; it changes the internal layout.
Specify on the drawing
Cable entry and termination
Bottom or top entry, cable or busway, gland plate size and the direction the site will pull the cables from. This is the most common cause of site rework.
Confirm before production
Enclosure and environment
IP rating, ventilation, anti-condensation heaters and the paint finish for the environment the board will live in. A plant room and an outdoor kiosk need different answers.
IP30–IP65 available
Metering and communication
Whether metering is at the incoming only or per feeder, and whether readings go to a BMS, SCADA or a standalone display. Protocol and point list decide the devices.

Assemblies are built to drawing, so most project-specific requirements are a matter of configuration.

Cabinet dimensions

Width, height and depth adjusted to the space and to the number of outgoing ways, within the structural limits of the assembly.

Electrical configuration

Incoming arrangement, number and rating of feeders, spare ways, changeover, generator incoming and capacitor connection.

Component selection

Breakers, contactors, relays and meters from the brands your specification approves, matched to the fault level.

Busbar configuration

Main and distribution busbar arrangement, material and current rating, with the short-circuit rating matched to the fault level.

Enclosure finish

IP rating, paint colour, gland plates, canopy, plinth and lifting arrangements for transport and installation.

Project documentation

Approved drawings, wiring schematics, terminal lists and test sheets prepared to the format your project requires.
